Taraba Former Deputy Governor Slumps, Dies
Tragedy struck at weekend
in Jalingo, Taraba State, when former deputy governor, Senator Saleh Usman
Danboyi, slumped and died.
The incident, which
occurred during the late hours of Friday in his house, located few meters to
the Government House, has thrown the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the
state into mourning.
An eyewitness told The
Guardian that Senator Danboyi, who until his death was the Director General of
Arc. Darius Ishaku/ Haruna Manu Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, was on the
verge of returning to bed after the day’s activities before he slumped.
According to him, “we
immediately rushed him to the hospital but before we could get there, he gave
up the ghost.” Confirming the incident, the state chairman of the PDP, Mr.
Victor Bala Kona, who spoke through the party’s Public Relations Officer, noted
that Danboyi was hypertensive.
Though, his death,
according to Kona, would affect the party “as he would be greatly missed by
party members” but that should not affect the chances of the party in next
Saturday’s governorship election.
Also commenting on his
death, the Minister of Labour, Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya, said PDP in the
state and the country at large “has lost an active politician” adding that “we
lost somebody who was dear to us in PDP.”
The exit of Danboyi,
according to Ikenya, “will not affect the party, because he is part of us and
we are part of him.”
His death he believed
would further “unite PDP in Taraba state” hence the readiness of the party to
“immortalize him.”
On his on part, the senate
committee chairman on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Bwacha,
said: “His death took us by shock. But being a Christian, I know death can come
at any time.”
Stressing that PDP in the
state and in the country as a whole is one hung on one family, the death of the
campaign director general would not affect the party come next Saturday.”
