AU Observers: Nigerian Election Conforms To Continental And Regional Standards
The Nigerian 2015
presidential election has been said to meet the standards required of the
continent and region.
This was stated by the
African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) observer group on Monday.
The Group praised the
conduct of the election and called on aggrieved politicians to go to court
rather than instigate violence.
AUEOM said that its preliminary findings
showed that the election was “conducted in a peaceful atmosphere within the
framework that satisfactorily meets the continental and regional principles of
democratic elections”.
The statement added that
the election was generally peaceful during accreditation as well as the actual
voting and counting process.
It said that there are
well laid down procedures for challenging any dispute of the process and
concluded that the group will continue observing the post-electoral process
