With Rallies, Volunteers, TAN Raises Nigerians’ Interests In Jonathan - Part 2

The volunteers are  not restricted to the Nigeria. They are also made to operate  in several countries.

Same  for the TAN rallies. Udechukwu said: “We have been organising rallies in different parts of the world educating our citizens on the truth about country and this administration. The rallies abroad are important because the opposition, which has been thriving in propaganda and falsehood, has been going abroad to deceive our people. We have succeeded in setting the record straight. We have succeeded in selling the candidature of President Jonathan to millions of Nigerians abroad.”

Udechukwu may not be exaggerating the activities  and exploits of TAN abroad. Early this year,  Nigerians residing  in Ottawa, Canada, made news by staging a huge rally to canvass for  President Jonathan’s reelection. They did that under the auspices TAN.

The Coordinator of TAN Diaspora, Udechukwu, in his address at the Ottawa gathering,  posited that  Jonathan has made all Nigerians proud through his humane approach to governance.

He argued  that the president  has performed more than every of his predecessors in their first tenures, hence deserves a re-election to enable him continue the good work he has been doing, while pointed out that it was only natural and in good faith to give  Jonathan another four-year mandate because he has justified the first mandate adequately.

A leader of Nigerian community in Canada, Dr. Abel Onileola, in his own remarks at the occasion, emphasised that Nigerians in the Diaspora have after a careful assessment of all the presidential candidates in the  March 28 poll agreed to endorse the incumbent because he “possesses the necessary vitality, vigour and qualifications to take the nation and her citizens to the next level of growth and development.”

He maintained: “By all standards and considerations, President Jonathan remains the best man for the job, because the office is so strategic to all citizens, Africa and the global politics and  should be entrusted to only the best material.”

Similar atmosphere reigned in London, Washington, Hong Kong, China, Japan and Nigeria’s neigbour, Ghana when TAN staged rallies therein.

In Ghana, Udechukwu submitted that there was  need to have the president re-elected to be able to consolidate and continue with his transformation agenda, which he said has truly changed and transformed the various sectors of the polity positively in the last five years. He noted  that because many Nigerians are  living away outside the shores of the country, they seemed to be uninformed on the achievements of the incumbent administration.

Beyond rallies, TAN made effort to further raise the attention of the international community to the general elections. The association, in January wrote the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki Moon, asking him and the body to show more interest on issues regarding the election. In the letter, it catalogued efforts made by President Jonathan to ensure that elections are free and fair .

Udechukwu explained: “We wrote the letter because we want the whole world to pay attention to the process.  The President has nothing to hide; he believes that the contest should be like what is obtained in other advanced countries. We asked the UN not to rely on rumours and lies from some desperate individuals about the elections. Instead it should monitor it from the beginning to the end.”

Certainly, Jonathan, win or lose, will be grateful to TAN. The association has given the desired exposure and mileage it needs to go into the presidential contest.
What happens on the day of the election is for the electorate to determine.

“We believe that with what we have done in TAN, we have told Nigerians the whole truth about Jonathan; we know that this truth will guide Nigerians in reelecting the president. In a few days, we all will be celebrating the resounding victory of our President,” Udechukwu said.

Next weekend will prove Udechukwu right or wrong.
