The Paralysis Of Analysis





Someone I know learnt a lesson the hard way and I would like to share his story with you.

My friend - let's call him Jombo (not real name) was in the habit of analyzing whatever came his way before ever taking a decision to either do it or leave it.

In the year 2000 when I ventured out into Multi Level Marketing, both of us actually sat down and agreed to key into any opportunity that came up then. 

And so when that opportunity came, and because we had earlier discussed and agreed to key in, I just registered myself and also registered my wife for the program but Jombo? he said he was analyzing the trend in the market for the Company's products and how receptive people were about it.

When we (my wife and I) started organizing home meetings for associates and friends on the opportunity and products, he was still analyzing

When we made our first sales and made some good profit on them, he was still analyzing

When we got the first persons to key into the opportunity through us, he was still analyzing.

Finally after 6 months of analyzing, he said he was ready to key in but by then the registration fee had increased from N42, 000.00 we keyed in with to N90, 000.00 and he just became frozen in mid air.

He did not eventually come in.

Then 3 years later, we branched out and signed up with another MLM Company, I mentioned it to him and he said that he would not miss it this time.

He went to the net and researched the Company, and gave me the information that the Company is not a big Company and all that and so he was not willing to sign up; then while still talking about the Company we had signed up with, he got another offer from another close friend of ours who had signed up with another Company; he again had to analyze that one; while still doing it, another Company surfaced with mouth watering Compensation Plan and it was like all roads were leading to her but Jombo won't do anything without analyzing; he went to the net to analyze this new Company, came out with result that it will fold up in a year's time because its Comp Plan was too good to be true (but that Company is still alive and well uptill now 10 years after that prediction from Jombo) and in the same year, another Company came into the horizon, most of our friends joined that one but Jombo was still analyzing.

By the time the year ended, Jombo was unable to sign up with any of the 5 MLM Companies that had come into town in that year.

When we (my wife and I) were hosting our friends and business associates to an end of year bash, Jombo was there and when we were less pressured, he came to me and asked me "do you mean that all these persons are doing business with you?" and I answered yes!

It was then that he confessed to me that all those analysis he was carrying out on the Companies were actually what paralyzed him and did not allow him to key into any of the programs because each Company had its own demerit no matter how shinny the object may be.

I told him that I knew he was paralyzed by fear and that was why he was unable to take a firm decision to sign up with one or two.

He promised to change in the coming year.

That's the short story of Jombo.
